Polish Tatra Mountains
Tatra Mountains is the highest mountain range in mountain-chain of Carpathians. It occupies 758 square kilometers of surface, but only 22% belongs to Poland. Tatra Mountains are one of the most recognizable symbols of our country, among the tops there is important national park with hundreds of uncommon animals and plants. Many people consider that this is the most beautiful place in Poland. It’s very hard to say that is true, because there are a lot of wonderful corners in our country, but for sure we can agree that Tatra Mountains are marvelous and magical.
The highest mountain of Polish Tatras is Rysy, which is also the highest peak in Poland. It has 2499 meters above sea level. Top of Rysy is a natural border between our country and Slovakia. It’s very popular among mountain climbing lovers because of unique, amazing flora. Over the height of 2400 m.a.m.s.l we can find over 63 species of flowers. There is also a breath-taking view from the top. During sunny days you can see Krakow which is distant of about 90 km.
Those who want to reach the top of Rysy have to remember, that the mountain, as well as whole Tatras, is very dangerous. There are two trials lead to the top – Red Trial, on Polish site and Blue Trial on the territory of Slovakia. During winter only Red Trial is able for tourists, but it’s extremely risky because of avalanches. Lonely climbing Rysy is a task for experienced climbers. We can enjoy the beauty of Polish Tatra Mountains, but we always have to respect its strict laws.
Between the peaks of Tatras we can find wonderful mountain lakes, which are called here ponds. The biggest pond of Tatra Mountains is Morskie Oko which occupies almost 34 hectares of surface. This pond is also the beginning of Red Trial to the top of Rysy.
For special attention deserve uncommon species of animals which can be found in Tatras. In lower parts we can encounter on foxes, brown bears, lynx or golden eagles. Higher parts are settlements of marmots, mountain goats or spotted nutcrackers. Tatra Mountains National Park takes care over all endangered and rare species of animals and plants. Tatras are one of the last places in Poland where we can find unspoiled nature.
Polish Tatra Mountains are real pearl among all beautiful places in Poland, as also the greatest natural heritage. We encourage all to visit this magical place to enjoy fresh mountain air, breath-taking views and to experience one of a kind adventure.
