Former prisoners, Polish president, prime ministers of Poland and Izrael, many international guests from Germany, France and Italy, members of parliament, representatives of police, fire-brigade, cities, schools and other institutions have taken part in celebrations of 65th anniversary of Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz’s liberation.

Celebrations took place in Oswiecim on Wednesday, 27th of January. After honouring prisoners of Auschwitz, murdered during II World War, by putting flowers under the Wall of Executions (?ciana Strace?), three of the former prisoners W?adys?aw Bartoszewski, Marian Turski and Edward Paczkowski have spoken about life in the extermination camp. After them, invited authorities appeared to deliver speeches about history and memory of people, who died in Auschwitz.

The next point of celebrations was a common prayer of Polish and Jewish clergyman under the camps memorial. Then guests went to the International House of Youth Meetings (Mi?dzynarodowy Dom Spotka? M?odzie?y) to take part in the symposium about human rights.

Auschwitz was an extermination camp during the II World War. From 1940 to 1945 when it has been liberated, Nazis killed there 1,1 million of people, especially Jewish, Polish and Gypsies. Nowadays Auschwitz is a museum which is commemorating war crimes and honouring victims of holocaust.
