Poznan - one of the oldest and biggest cities in Poland (fifth in terms of population, sixth in terms of area), situated by the Warta River in the western part of our country. It is considered to be a cradle of the Polish civilization. In the past, it acted as a state capital and seat of the rulers. Today it's the capital of Greater Poland province.

The city is located between Berlin and Warsaw and is an important road and rail junction in the country. It also has an international airport and it's a economic, cultural and educational center.
Poznan is home to eight state universities and seventeen private universities, educating a total of nearly 142 thousand students. For every 1000 people there are 254 students so this is the biggest academic city in Poland.

The city is also known in the tourist guides as the "capital of Polish music" due to female and male choirs, violin and lute competitions, and also thanks to the chamber orchestra, opera and the Polish Dance Theater.
