Nowa Huta - a huge industrial-residential complex in the western part of Krakow - is the main symbol of Polish socialist industrialization and resistance against communist authorities. Nowa Huta was to be the first real socialist city built from scratch. Not by accident it was placed in the vicinity of Krakow. According to the plan, the ideals of the working class, were to eliminate the clerical and conservative elements still present in the minds of former Polish Capital's inhabitants. History, however, fixed a different course. In the 80's Huta became the center against the communist movement. The most famous places worth visiting are: the administrative Center of Tadeusz Sendzimir's steelworks, Central Square and buildings around the Central Square.
