On the 27th of January, 1945, the Soviet troops arrived at the gates of Auschwitz Camp. Even though the Nazis had abandoned the property a week earlier, the view was still terrifying and blood- curdling. Most of the prisoners had been forced to join a march of death to the Bergen-Belsen Camp in Germany.

Liberation of Auschwitz

Those who managed to survive and saw the coming of Soviet Army were let go and sought help in the nearby villages. Sadly, there were many people who died shortly after the liberation, since the trauma caused by cruel treatment, starvation and cold was too big.

As each year, the Museum of Auschwitz will host a number of events to commemorate the liberation of the camp. We hope that the frightful events that took place there will never be forgotten and will constitute a warning for future generations.
