13th March 2010 was a day of 67th anniversary of Cracow Ghetto liquidation. To commemorate Jews murdered by Nazis in 1943, the next day the March of Memory was organized. Over 500 people celebrated anniversary of World War II tragically event, by marching trough the area of ghetto to reach Ghetto Heroes Plaza and pray for those who lost their lives in this place. Participants has also put a flowers under the remained fragment of ghetto wall.

Unfortunately there was also an unpleasant incident. The day before march unknown perpetrators has devastated a statue commemorating those who was murdered in Cracow ghetto, by writing on it anti-Semitic signs. Luckily, organizers of March has removed writings as quick as they could and celebration has passed without any more bad surprises.

Hooligans has been condemned by Jewish ambassador, Polish cardinal and all participants of march but ambassador of Israel said also that he was very glad because he has seen a lot of young people who came to celebrate anniversary. He added that it’s really important to teach new generations about holocaust and it’s always worth to meet each other every year during the March of Memory and remember about those who died and those who was risking their lives to help the victims of Nazis.

March of Memory is really great initiative. We hope, that this idea will be happening regularly every year and also that it won’t be such horrible incidents ever again.
