Auschwitz & Krakow Study Tour

Auschwitz & Birkenau concentration camps, ‘Schlindler’s List’, the Nazi occupation of Poland (including Krakow) – these are just some of the areas covered during your time in Poland.

Auschwitz & Birkenau

Site of the world’s most notorious genocide and mass grave. Built in 1940 as a concentration camp for Polish political prisoners, in 1942 it became the centre for the extermination of European Jews. Between 1940 and 1945 the Nazis killed around 1.5 million people in Aushwitz/Birkenau, mainly Jews but also Poles, gypsies, Russian POWs and others.

Schlinder’s List

Oscar Schindler was a Catholic and profiteer during World War II. Initially he prospered by going along with the Nazi regime, but ultimately saved the lives of more than a thousand Jews by giving them jobs in his Krakow factory. Schlindler lost his wealth but redeemed himself through his courage and generosity. His story was filmed by Steven Spielberg in 1993.

Nazi Occupation of Poland

In September 1939 Poland was invaded from all sides by both Germany and the Soviet Union, and after 35 days the last Polish division was surrounded. From that moment on Poland was under Nazi and Soviet occupation for the next 5 years.
