Katowice is an original city, with interesting atmosphere and unique offer of activities. You won't find here medieval architecture or famous, breath-taking monuments, however there are other things which can attract visitors during stay in the capital of Silesia.

Different Sightseeing

In Katowice there are many interesting remains of socialism times. The next day after the dead of Joseph Stalin, the name of the city was changed into the Stalinogrod. It shows that this city was very important from the communistic government's point of view. Thankfully three years later inhabitants forced city authorities to change it back to Katowice. That crazy times left here such places like Giszowiec or Nikiszowiec – districts which originally were a place of living for working class. Architecture from that times is a little bit gloomy and not very attractive, but surely unique.
Other important group of Katowice sights are places and monuments connected with Jewish culture. Old Jewish cemetery is probably the most famous and attractive sight of the city. Old tombstones and sculptures make amazing impression.

Spend some time in an active way

Except of sightseeing Katowice offers few nice entertainment centers where you can get some fun with friends and family. For the greatest attention deserves totally unique in Poland and very futuristic attraction – Laser Paintball. This is fantastic fun for all of those who always dreamed about being soldier.

Also important is Sport Hall “Spodek”. One of its kind, enormous building is simply a must-see, but you can find some interesting activities inside it. Indoor icerink and a gym are places where you can spend some great active time. Take a walk around entire “Spodek”, you'll surely find something else.

Where to dance?

Katowice has really satisfying offer of nightlife places. After Krakow and Warsaw this is one of the best nightlife cities in Poland, where we can find modern clubs with good music, nice company and wild atmosphere. It's worth to visit some of them to entertain a little bit.

The capital city of Silesia isn't the most brightly shinning point on the tourism map of Poland, however, when you're here, you may find few places and activities which won't let you to feel bored.
