Katowice is one of most original cities in Poland. You won’t find here medieval architecture like in the majority of Polish cities, but it doesn’t mean that it hasn’t interesting history and places that are worth seeing. This city offers something different than others. Between the relicts of socialism and industrial landscape we can find few unique and beautiful places.

Mixture of epochs

What to see in Katowice - Silesia Chamber
Silesian Chamber
The place which makes the greatest impression is Giszowiec, district designed in the beginning of 20th century, as the housing estate for miners. In the communist era next to historical houses, has erected blocks of flat, made of big slab. This uncommon mixture deserve for attention especially because of the placement. Giszowiec is surrounded by parks and forests and that’s why it’s often called the garden district. Historical miners houses and clumsy blocks between the beautiful greenery make strange but unforgettable impression.

Don't miss also: Silesian Chamber – little, but beautiful exposition of regional artists works.

Jewish Culture in Katowice

Monument of Holocaust Victms

Don't miss also: Synagogue Plaza – Remains of Great Synagogue in Katowice with the monument commemorating holocaust victims.

Most important cultural place

The next interesting attraction of Katowice is cinema theater Rialto, one of the oldest cinemas in Poland which was built in 1912. Except of few rebuildings, Rialto kept its unique atmosphere and it’s worth to see the show in this cinema, or just pay attention on the historical building.
