What you'll see

In your programme

  • Main gate "Arbeit macht frei"
  • Objects of everyday use
  • Personal belongings
  • Gas chambers
  • Pictures of individual prisoners
  • Original documents
  • Crematoria
  • Original wooden barracks
  • Bathhouse
  • Watchtower

You walk into the camp throught the main gate just like the thousands of its prisoners, looking up at the infamous sign 'Arbeit macht frei'. Highly ironic, as most of them were never to see the outside world again.

You see for yourself the living conditions of the prisoners while visiting the blocks. People say the most horrifying sight are the piles of personal belongings taken from the prisoners, as well as the gas chamber and the Death Wall which remind us of their sad fate. It is especially important to remember them today. As George Santayana said:

“Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it”.

Underground Magic

Taking a tour of Wieliczka Salt Mine is the best form of time travel for history buffs and everyone interested in cool things. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that many notable people visited for inspiration and health benefits long ago. After your tour, grab a bite to eat in the cafe and don’t forget to get some salt as a souvenir.

On the Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour you will experience a mine that was in constant use from the 1300s to 2007 while getting a sense of what it felt like to be a miner hundreds of years ago through their art work etched into the rock.

Famous Poles visited this breathtaking location for centuries for its health benefits, a naturally filtered saline microclimate without any allergens, bacteria or fungi.

Experience the feeling of walking down a myriad of stairs, but do not worry, an authentic working mine lift will take you back to the surface. Apparently, if you lick the walls at any given point of the tour, they will be salty. Not that we’ve tried it…

Did you know?

Many chambers in the mine have some of the best acoustic environments in the world!

Underground passages

The journey through a real labyrinth of saline corridors will give you the chance to explore the extraordinary landscapes of Wieliczka Salt Mine.

Salt chambers and sculptures

The sculptures of Wieliczka will help you understand how the lives of miners looked like at certain times. It is no doubt that religion was very important to them.

St. Kinga's Chapel

The most fascinating and awe-inspiring place in Wieliczka is St. Kinga’s Chapel. Named for the patron saint of Poland and Lithuaniua, Saint Kinga.
